How to copy CD/DVD Disk in Ubuntu

Submitted by str on Sat, 07/21/2007 - 17:48

Duplicating CD or DVD in Ubuntu is so easy.

First we create an image of the CD/DVD to your hard disk drive.

sudo umount /dev/cdrom
readcd dev=/dev/cdrom f=file.iso

or
readom dev=/dev/cdrom f=file.iso

And then, we finally burn the iso image file to blank or writable CD/DVD .

Right click on Image (ISO) file -> Write to Disc... -> Write

First, thanks for the short and sweet walk-through. I was wondering how I can copy specific files to the same CD which contains information already.

I'm referring to Ubuntu server without a GUI.

Thank you in advance.

IMHO, with the current graphics card that we are having right now, you should have the GUI and put your effort on something else although readcd is really cool and new to me. :)

I have a CD-ROM that contains an apple HFS partition and a separate ISO9660 partition,
readom only seems to get the ISO9660

I can see both by mounting using CDFS

How can I make a backup of this disk.

# apt-get install readcd
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
E: Couldn't find package readcd

Is this one of those mystery packages?

come on it is written or
so when one doesn't work we have to try the other one
i think that is the meaning of OR!

any way just my comment

You may install qpxtool which contains "readdvd" command. it can read dvd's which may possibly have bad sectors. the format is easy: readdvd -d /dev/sr0 -o filename.iso -s 8 -v

good luck.
